Questions parents ask
Is it really free?
Yes. Star Kids Lab is free to use, with no ads, no in-app purchases and no paid level. The stars children earn are only for fun things for their hero.
Does it use AI?
Only when your child asks for it. An AI helper (Claude, by Anthropic) gives ideas when your child presses a ✦ button, for example to sketch a drawing guide or suggest what characters say, and in an optional chat with their hero. Email addresses, phone numbers and links are removed before anything is sent, and every message goes through a safety check. We don't store the messages (Anthropic processes them under its own terms). Parents can turn the chat off.
What data is stored?
Without an account, what your child makes stays in the browser on their own device. Nothing is stored on our servers except what your child chooses to send: text for the AI helper, an idea for the ideas box, or a story a grown-up has allowed them to share with our team. With an optional parent account, we also store the parent's email, each child's nickname and birth month and year, and each child's progress (missions and stars), so they can continue on another device. Drawings and stories stay on the device unless a parent turns on cloud save; photos of paper drawings and voice recordings always stay on the device. We also keep anonymous daily totals, such as how many movies were played, with nothing that could identify anyone. Full details are in the privacy policy.
Does my child need an account?
No, you don't need one. A parent account is only useful if your child wants to log in on more than one device.
What ages is it for?
Children aged about 6 to 12. Missions get harder as your child grows, and a parent can set their age band.
Which languages does it speak?
English, Arabic and Urdu. Switch at any time from the language menu. Reading aloud uses your device's own voices, so it depends on the voices installed (Urdu voices are missing on some devices).
Does it work on tablets and phones?
Yes, in any modern browser on computers, tablets and phones. A tablet or computer gives the most room for drawing.
Can children talk to each other?
No. It isn't a social network: children can't find strangers or message each other. The only shared play is an optional Comet Racer race with friends who type the same room code, with nicknames only and no chat.
Can we print what my child makes?
Yes: a picture book, a comic book and a colouring page, as PDF or picture files that print on A4 or Letter paper.
